Indoor recess at C-4 Elementary has gotten a little quieter lately. Fourth-grade teacher Deb Richardson teamed up with retired USD 470 teacher Luann Hoskins to teach students how to crochet during recess. What started as a simple activity has become a calm, focused space where students are learning patience, problem-solving, and confidence along the way.

Two USD 470 students, Ruby Bryant (Jefferson Elementary) and Serenity Walters-Hewitt (C-4 Elementary), were selected for the Kansas Youth Art Month (YAM) exhibition. Their artwork will be displayed at the Topeka Shawnee Public Library through March 25. YAM celebrates the importance of art education and young artists' creativity.

C4 Elementary Academic Coach Misty Kramer opened a 1988 time capsule with C4 fifth graders. The capsule, marked "Do not open until January 22, 2025," contained treasures from the late '80s, sparking conversations about how times have changed.

C4 Elementary excelled in the No-Miss November challenge with a 3% absence rate and 63.87% of students having perfect attendance. District-wide, 37.17% of students had zero absences, an improvement from last November's 33.88% and October's 33%. These gains highlight the district's commitment to building strong attendance habits. Way to go, Bulldogs!
